What is Naturopathic medicine?
Naturopathic medicine blends modern science with natural forms of treatment. The naturopathic philosophy is that the body can heal itself and, when given the right stimulation, the body’s natural healing power activates to treat the underlying cause of the disease
Naturopathy was introduced to North America by Dr. Benedict Lust in 1902, though some of the traditional treatments are centuries old. Today, naturopathic medicine is an established primary health care system growing at a rapid rate. Naturopathic doctors are recognized as leaders and experts in the field of natural and preventive medicine.
To practice naturopathic medicine in Canada, doctors must complete accredited naturopathic medical programs, standardized North American Board Exams (NPLEX) and jurisdictional exams. Canada holds high national standards of practice and regulation in five provinces.
